Sheila Ann Stafford, 27, had been hit several times, strangled with a cord or belt and cut with a knife in the mobile home of her estranged husband, according to a Montgomery County Sheriff's Office spokesman.
The spokesman said Stafford's husband, Scotty Wayne Overly, 27, is charged in his wife's killing at the Alleghany Trailer Park, off Alleghany Springs Road near Shawsville, the spokesman said.
Overly told a neighbor about the killing and asked the neighbor to call the sheriff's office, according to the spokesman.
When sheriff's deputies arrived about 5 a.m. Sunday, Overly was waiting for them.
Overly told deputies he and his wife had been separated for four months. He said he called his wife, who was staying in Salem, and asked her to come to his trailer to talk. She agreed and went there about 5:45 p.m. Saturday.
The couple got in an argument about Stafford's seeing another man during the couple's separation.
Overly has been charged with first-degree murder and was being held without bond in the Montgomery County Jail.
