ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

July was a slow month for Roanoke Valley new car dealers. The Virginia Automobile Dealers Association, a Richmond trade group, reported that 607 new cars were registered by valley dealers last month. That's down 16.8 percent from 730 in June and off 16.3 percent from 725 in July a year ago.

In the first seven months of this year, 4,847 new cars were registered by Roanoke Valley dealers, down 14.4 percent from 5,662 in the same period last year.

In July, 273 cars were registered in Roanoke, 267 in Roanoke County and 67 in Salem.
