All-you-can-eat pancake breakfast

BLACKSBURG - ERA Townside's ninth annual benefit all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast is Sept. 1, from 6:30 until 9:30 a.m. at the Townside offices at 2803 S. Main St.

Proceeds will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Last year, the company collected more than $5,000 to win the association's President's Club Trophy.

Tickets are $5, available from any Townside agent or employee.

A $1,000 door prize will be awarded, and ticketholders need not be present to win.

Christiansburg sidewalk sales

CHRISTIANSBURG - Downtown Christiansburg businesses are invited to participate in three sidewalk sales sponsored by the Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

A "Back to School" sale is scheduled for Aug. 25 and 26, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day.

A sale on Sept. 15 and 16, will kick off the town's annual Wilderness Trail festival.

The third sale will be Oct. 13 and 14.

Environmental talk Monday

BLACKSBURG - David Sligh, formerly a senior engineer at the state Department of Environmental quality's Roanoke water division and now director of the Virginia chapter of Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility, will talk about a draft permit from DEQ for the management of dairy waste Virginia Tech on Monday.

He will speak at 7:30 p.m. at the Virginia Museum of Natural History on Main Street.

His talk is sponsored by the Sierra Club's New River group.

The meeting will prepare citizens for a DEQ public information meeting and hearing on the draft proposal set for Aug. 23, at 6:30 p.m. at Virginia Tech's Donaldson Brown Continuing Education Center.
