BLACKSBURG - Two authors will sign copies of their books at University Bookstores, Volume II, Saturday, August 26, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Peggy Crawford will sign her copies of her book "Stitching the Wildflowers." David Wallace of Pocahontas Press in Blacksburg, publisher of the book, will accompany Crawford at the signing. Crawford will also have some her craftsmanship on display and for sale.
Elliston resident Mary Campagna-Hamlin will sign copies of her book "Gainsboro: The Destruction of a Historic Community." Campagna-Hamlin will be accompanied by Evelyn Davis Bethel, president of Historic Gainsboro Preservation District, Inc., publishers of the book.
Campagna-Hamlin's book is about the effects of urban renewal on the Gainsboro neighborhood and the community's response to recent urban planning.
The book signings are part of University Mall's Fall Festival and Craft Show Event.
Prices Fork hollering contest
BLACKSBURG - Come out and holler.
It's the annual WKEX (1430 AM) hollering contest Saturday, Aug. 19 at the hollering contest at the Prices Fork Fair.
The winner of the junior contest, open to those who are 18 and under, will receive four tickets to Kings Dominion. Winner of the adult contest will receive dinner tickets for two to the Morning Glory Cafe in Christiansburg.
WKEX will broadcast live from the fair. The station will feature live music by regional favorites and recording artists the Flat Ridge Boys at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
