TIMOTHY A. MANUEL, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. U. Manuel of Roanoke, has been promoted to associate professor of finance at the University of Montana, Missoula, Mont.

Manuel is a 1977 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

JOHN LEE HOWELL, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Howell, has been nominated to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." He is a student at National Business College.

THE GENERAL JAMES BRECKINRIDGE CHAPTER, DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION has announced the recipients of its Good Citizenship medals at Addison and Breckinridge middle schools and North Cross School.

They are: Mark Hunley, son of David and Robin Edwards Jr.; James Stanley, son of James Stanley Sr., of Addison; Jessica Hayden, daughter of Jerome and Joann Hayden; Mary Lewis, daughter of Norm and Jean Lewis; Logan Hall, son of Kenneth and Ann Hall, all of Breckinridge; and Daniel Miranda, son of Dr. William M. Miranda, Jr. and Mary-Eve Zangari; Anne Wil Hubard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William S. Hubard Jr.; Glen Mackey, son of G. Nelson Mackey Jr. and Jean Mackey, all of North Cross.

BRANDON S. FIELD of Roanoke has been named to the dean's list at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is an engineering major.

RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE has named the following Roanoke-area students to the dean's list: Julia Elizabeth Slemp, Travis Ryan Overstreet, Brooke Baylor Mallory III, Christopher Michael Hancock, Tuyet Thi Anh Tran, all of Roanoke; and Clayton Scott Highberger of Salem.

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY COLLEGE has named several students from Roanoke to the dean's list for the spring semester: Mark E. Feldmann, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Feldmann; Jeremy D. Graybill, son of Robin P. Brindle; David McDade, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neil McDade; and W. Scott Thomasson, son of Judy N. Ross.

MARY WASHINGTON COLLEGE has named Roanoke-area students to the dean's list for the spring semester. They are: Ellen C. Harris and Mark S. Ratliff of Roanoke; Brenton J. Poythress of Salem; and Sarah F. Moorman of Vinton.

RYANN KASEY, daughter of Sherwood and Lawton Kasey of Roanoke, has been awarded the Aubrey Hunter Jobe Memorial Scholarship at East Tennessee State University. The scholarship is awarded to graduates of Northside High School and is based on leadership, participation in school activities and academics.

ANN SCOTT DOUTHAT of Roanoke was named to the dean's list at Brenau University in Gainesville, Ga., for the spring quarter.

EMILY LYLE, daughter of Rev. Michael and Brenda Lyle of Fincastle, has been designated as a Presidential Scholar at Emory & Henry College. She will receive a renewable $1,000 scholarship. The award is based on academics and leadership in school, church, and the community. Lyle is a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

JOHN PETER AYLING of Roanoke was named to the dean's list at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee for the spring semester.

ERNEST CLARK JR., son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Clark of Roanoke, was named to the dean's list at Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio. He is a 1994 graduate of Roanoke Valley Christian School.

KERRY DOUGLAS KIRK and KATHERINE SINCLAIR ELLETT, both of Roanoke, recently graduated from The Darden School at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Each received a master of business administration degree.

ANDREW J. ARCHER has been appointed dean of Academic and Student Affairs at Virginia Western Community College. He joined the mathematics faculty in 1972 and has served as chairman of the Science and Mathematics Division since 1976.

JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY in Harrisonburg has announced the names of its Roanoke-area spring 1995 graduates.

Those from Roanoke are: Chad D. Brown, Katina N. Casey, Summer C. Clayton, Lori S. Foutz, Tina M. Mazey, Jill M. McFadden, Sott L. Motley, Herbert W. Scholz, and Ashley N. Thompson.

Those from Salem are: Julie E. Bailey, Kimberly A. Keffer, Shannon G. Ripley, Melissa T. Witt, and Lisa K. Woods.

LONGWOOD COLLEGE has announced the names of its spring 1995 bachelor's degree recipients from Roanoke. They are: Hope Annette Broughman, business administration; Cameron Cornell Caffee II, business administration; Elise Deane Hollandsworth, art; Justin Alan Lincoln, English; and Amy Rebecca Pratt, psychology.

JULIE BAILEY, daughter of Jack and Barbara Bailey of Salem, recently received the Crystal Theodore Service With Scholarship Award at James Madison University. The award is for outstanding volunteer service in the arts and academic achievement.

DEIDRE R. CAMPBELL, daughter of Ron and Yvonne Reynolds of Salem and Richard Campbell of Roanoke, recently received the 1995 Brown, Edwards, & Co. Accounting Achievement Award. It was presented at the Virginia Tech Accounting Department Awards Banquet.

DAVID PETTENGILL, son of David and Nancy Pettengill of Salem, recently received a master of science degree in systems engineering from Virginia Tech.

VANESSA FASSIE, daughter of Pierre and Mary Jo Fassie of Roanoke, has been named a United States National Award winner in foreign language. She attends William Fleming High School and was selected by Debra Wilkins, a teacher.

BERNARD DUNNE III, son of Dr. and Mrs. Bernard Dunne Jr. of Roanoke, received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Northwestern University in Evanston Ill.

TED SHELTON COOLEY, son of R. Michael Cooley of Roanoke, has been named to the spring semester dean's list of Warren Wilson College in Asheville, N.C.

BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE has named the following Roanoke-area students to its dean's list: Michelle Rena Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garland Brown of Roanoke; Dale LeRoy Foster Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale L. Foster Sr. of Salem; Kelly Rebecca Honeycutt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Honeycutt of Blue Ridge; and Michael David Baker, son of John and Dianne Baker of Buchanan.

LUCY FERRISS of Roanoke, received a doctor of philosophy degree in English from Tufts University in Medford, Mass.

BRIAN G. BURLEIGH, son of Richard E. Burleigh of Roanoke, recently received his master of science degree in physics from Wake Forest University. He was also the recipient of a Wake Forest University Master Teacher Fellowship, earning teaching certification for the state of North Carolina.

NATALIE ANDERSON of Roanoke received a $750 scholarship from the Virginia Mountain Crafts Guild. The scholarship is awarded to high school and college students interested in a career in the field of arts and crafts.

Anderson will attend Virginia Commonwealth University.

KARI DARRSHAN HALL,daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson H. Hall III of Roanoke, recently received Roanoke County's Sallie Mae Teacher of the Year award.

Hall is a 1990 graduate of Northside High School and a 1994 graduate of Roanoke College.

ANDREW DOUGLAS KINGERLY of Roanoke received a bachelor of science degree in funeral service from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla.

THE NORTH ROANOKE CHAPTER, ABWA recently awarded 13 scholarships for 1995. The recipients and their colleges are: Amanda Frazier, Mars Hill College; Gretchen Fritz, Gardner-Webb University; Andrea Herron, Emory & Henry; Julie Walden, Duke University; Stacie Nixon, University of Virginia; Amanda Pagans, UVa.; Michael Dowe II, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Deepa Channaiah, UVa.; Chalena Stanley, Virginia Commonwealth University; Margaret O'Dell, Mars Hill; Sandra Rouse, University of North Carolina; Yasmin Jilla, UVa; and Bryon Lepere, University of Richmond.

CHRISTOPHER R. FOLEY of Vinton has received a master of education degree from the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vt.

SARAH LAMOTTE and GARRETT BELCHER received certificates of appreciation from the Resource Authority of the Roanoke Valley for their artwork, which appeared in a children's activity book designed for distribution to children when they tour the Resource Authority facilities.

Lamotte, a student at Cave Spring Elementary, was given the certificate for the front cover drawing and Belcher, a student at Penn Forest Elementary, was given the certificate for the back cover drawing.

THE COL. WILLIAM PRESTON CHAPTER, NATIONAL SOCIETY OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION recently presented its Good Citizenship awards.

The recipients are: Lisa Renee Pendarvis, daughter of John and Betsie Pendarvis, and Nicholas Kevin Sprague, son of Kevin and Anne Sprague, both students at Roanoke Catholic Elementary; Elizabeth Bernier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bernier, and Stephen Herman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Herman, both students at Woodrow Wilson Middle School; and Jan Steffe, daughter of Drs. John Steffe and Lee Ann Steffe, and Ryan Schlueter, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Schlueter, both students at Crystal Spring Elementary.

Donna Hester, daughter of LaWanda and Jerry Hester, received the 1995 ROTC medal. Hester is a student at William Fleming High School.

LIANA DENISE ROBINSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael L. Robinson of Roanoke, was recently named to the spring semester dean's list at Hood College in Frederick, Md. Robinson is a 1992 graduate of Northside High School.

ANTHONY L. SHERMAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Sherman, has been named to the dean's list at Hampton University for the spring semester. The Shermans' daughter, KIA L.P. SHERMAN, has been selected to be included in Who's Who Among American High School Students for 1994-95.

BRYN FLEMING HUDGINS, daughter of Karen R. Hudgins of Vinton and John K. Hudgins of Charlotte, N.C., was named to the spring dean's list at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Hudgins is a 1991 graduate of William Byrd High School.

KRISTIN BOURNE of Roanoke and JOHN KINNEY of Vinton have been named to the spring dean's list at High Point (N.C.) University.
