CARDWELL, Rufus Edward, Sr., 98, formerly of Lynchburg, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 1995, at the University of Ohio Hospital in Columbus, Ohio after a brief illness. He was retired from the Timber Roller Bearing Company in 1967. He was a 33rd degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Cardwell; daughter, Virginia Ardmore; four brothers and four sisters. Survivors include his daughters, Mary (Clarence) Patrick, Naomi (William) Henry, Lynchburg; Beulah (William) Dabney, Roanoke; sons, Rufus E. (Shirley Ann) Cardwell Jr., Columbus, Ohio, and Thomas (Jean) Cardwell, Lynchburg; son-in-law, Charles Ardmore; seventeen grandchildren, twenty great- grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, counsins and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 19, 1995 at the Community Funeral Home, 909 5th St., Lynchburg, Va.

DUNN, Christopher James, 20, of Blue Ridge, died Saturday, August 12, 1995 at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C. He was a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School. He is survived by his sister, Angela Dunn; brother, Steven Dunn; mother and father, William J. and Betty J. Dunn; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 17, 1995, 11 a.m., at Frank M. Faycosh Funeral Home, Ford City, Penn. He was a retired electrical supervisor for Appalachian Power Company and a member of Craig Valley Baptist Church. MATTOX, Estelle Rigney, 86, of 622 Augusta Avenue, Vinton, died Wednesday, August 16, 1995, at a local hospital. She was the widow of William E. Mattox. Mrs. Mattox was a retired nurses assistant in the Roanoke Valley where she did practice for many years. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and was an alumnus of Washington & Lee University and National Business College.
