IN SCHOOL

THE COL. WILLIAM PRESTON CHAPTER, NATIONAL SOCIETY OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION recently presented its Good Citizenship awards.

The recipients are: Lisa Renee Pendarvis, daughter of John and Betsie Pendarvis, and Nicholas Kevin Sprague, son of Kevin and Anne Sprague, both students at Roanoke Catholic Elementary; Elizabeth Bernier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bernier, and Stephen Herman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Herman, both students at Woodrow Wilson Middle School; and Jan Steffe, daughter of Drs. John Steffe and Lee Ann Steffe, and Ryan Schlueter, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Schlueter, both students at Crystal Spring Elementary.

Donna Hester, daughter of LaWanda and Jerry Hester, received the 1995 ROTC medal. Hester is a student at William Fleming High School.

VIRGINIA TECH has named several Roanoke-area students to its 1995 spring dean's list.

LIANA DENISE ROBINSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael L. Robinson of Roanoke, was recently named to the spring semester dean's list at Hood College in Frederick, Md. Robinson is a 1992 graduate of Northside High School.

ANTHONY L. SHERMAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Sherman, has been named to the dean's list at Hampton University for the spring semester. The Shermans' daughter, KIA L.P. SHERMAN, has been selected to be included in Who's Who Among American High School Students for 1994-95.

JENNIFER MULLINS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Andrews of Vinton, is among 10 students participating in the 1995 Regional Undergraduate Chemistry Research Program at Mississippi State University sponsored by the chemistry department and the National Science Foundation. Mullins is a graduate of William Byrd High School and attends Roanoke College.

MARY BREWER LORITSCH, a professor of radiography at Virginia Western Community College, has received a doctor of education degree from Virginia Tech. Her degree was from the education division of curriculum and instruction with a specialization in community health. In addition to completing her doctoral degree, Loritsch was named a Fellow at the 75th American Society of Radiologic Technologists annual conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is only the fourth technologist from Virginia to receive the honor.

BRYN FLEMING HUDGINS, daughter of Karen R. Hudgins of Vinton and John K. Hudgins of Charlotte, N.C., was named to the spring dean's list at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Hudgins is a 1991 graduate of William Byrd High School.

KRISTIN BOURNE of Roanoke and JOHN KINNEY of Vinton have been named to the spring dean's list at High Point (N.C.) University.

BRIAN C. MITCHELL, son of Kathryn Weddington of Troutville recently graduated from the middle school at Valley Forge Military Academy and College in Wayne, Pa.

ANDREW NORWOOD HURST JR. of Roanoke has received the University of North Carolina at Wilmington Chancellor's Achievement Award for the spring semester.

The award is given each semester to students who earn an "A" average for 15 or more credit hours.

Hurst is a 1991 graduate of Patrick Henry High School, CITY School and the Roanoke Valley Governor's School.

LEE KING and CHEREE BROWN have received $1,000 scholarships from Blue Ridge Baptist Church.

King, son of Leroy and Merle King of Troutville, is a June 1995 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School. He will attend the University of Virginia.

Brown, daughter of Curtis and Judy Brown of Blue Ridge, is a 1994 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School. She is a sophomore at Virginia Tech.

The scholarship endowment was established last year at the church.

DAWN WEAVER, a William Byrd High School teacher, has won the Blue Ridge Regional Education and Training Council's "World of Work" award in the marketing education division. Also, STEVE OLIVER, an Arnold R. Burton Technology Center instructor in Salem, has won the same award in the precision machining/technology division. The awards recognize teachers who demonstrate excellence in preparing students for work through the integration of career information and exploration within their subject areas.

RYAN KETRON, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ketron, has been named to the 1994-95 Trans American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.

Ketron, who attends Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C., also made the dean's list and was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma honor society.
