The Virginia Museum of Transportation is forming an exhibit on native Roanokers Robert W. Claytor and his brother, W. Graham Claytor Jr.
Robert Claytor was the former president of the Norfolk & Western Railway and the first chairman and chief executive officer of Norfolk Southern. He was instrumental in preserving and returning to operating condition the Class ``J,'' No. 611 and the Class ``A,'' No. 1218 steam locomotives.
Graham Claytor, former president of the Southern Railway and AMTRAK and deputy secretary of defense and secretary of the Navy under President Jimmy Carter, was a champion of steam railroading who began the steam excursions on the Southern Railway in 1966.
