CRESS, Hallie S., 87, of Atkins, died Thursday, August 17, 1995 at her daughter's home in Atkins, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie T. Cress and a son, Charlie R. Cress. She is survived by one daughter, Maybrey Norman, Atkins; three sons, Roy L. Cress, Charlottesville, Lewis Cress, Atkins, Roger Cress, Marion; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 19, 1995, at 10 a.m. at the Seaver-Brown Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. He is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Michael H. and Marsha Fielder, David W. and Doris Fielder, all of Roanoke; four brothers, Raymond O. Fielder, Jimmy D. Fielder, Stanley E. Fielder, Gary W. Fielder; granddaughter, Alexandra Michelle Fielder; close companion, Diane Anderson, Roanoke. Graveside service will be held Saturday, August 19, 1995 at 10 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Steve Dye officiating. FOUTZ, Bessie Bell Hiler, 97, of Rt. 1 Vinton, passed away, Wednesday, August 16, 1995. She was the widow of John Harry Foutz. Survivors include, one son and daughter-in-law, D. Wayne and Frances G. Foutz, Vinton; two grandchildren, Steven Wayne and wife, Ernestine Foutz, and Joyce Foutz and husband, Jim Glidden; four great-grandchildren, Brad Glidden, Kara Glidden, Amy Foutz, and Amanda Foutz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Hancock Sr. and Cora Hancock; his first wife, Lorrina Swanson Hancock; his son, Alex (``Buddy'') Hancock; two brothers and two sisters. HICKS, Edith Johnson, 92, of Moneta, died Monday, August 14, 1995, in a Bedford nursing home. She was born in Bedford County on September 17, 1902, a daughter of the late Wade Hampton Johnson and Blanche Lipscomb Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Hicks, two sons, Gilbert E. Hicks Jr., James Callen Hicks, and one daughter, Patricia Ann Hicks. She was a member of Morgans Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Lorene Hicks, St. Petersburg, Fla.; four grandchildren, Dr. Thomas L. Hicks, Tallahassee, Fla., Kaye Dettman, W. Palm Beach, Fla., Kimberly Raphum, Cary, N.C., Deidre Hicks, St. Petersburg, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 1995, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Riley Smith and the Rev. Thomas R. Speight officiating . HUBBARD, Ryland H. Sr., 66, of Southwest Roanoke Co., died Wednesday, August 16, 1995, in a local hospital. He was born in Covington, Va., September 9, 1928. He was a graduate of Washington & Lee University. Mr. Hubbard was the owner and operator of J. Berna Sales Company, a member of Windsor Hills United Methodist Church, and a member of the Roanoke Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife, Virginia B. Hubbard; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ryland H. Hubbard Jr. and Kelly Moore Hubbard, Charles M. Hubbard; two grandsons, Zachary S. Hubbard and Jacob A. Hubbard, all of Roanoke; one sister, Gladys H. Clemmons, Covington. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. D. Michael Meloy officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. HUNT, Carl M., 49, of Marion, died Tuesday, August 15, 1995 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was employed by Brunswick Corporation for 25 years and was very active in the Marion Jaycees for many years. he was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eileen Powell Hunt, and a brother, Dr. George S. Hunt. He is survived by his wife, Susan Hutsch Hunt, Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Ami A. Hunt and Richard Patterson, Tazewell; one son, Kenneth R. Hunt, Marion; one brother, James A. Hunt, Palm Harbor, Fla.; two sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Frances E. Hunt, Hamilton, Ohio, May and Donald Heidbrink, Metairie, Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews. LOVELL, Ernestine Smith, 88, of Richmond, died Wednesday, August 16, 1995 in a Richmond nursing home. Mrs. Lovell was formerly a resident of Franklin County, where she was a public school teacher for 42 years, and was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, Samuel Jesse (``Pet'') Lovell preceded her in death in 1979. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James Carlton and Louise Rakes Lovell; two grandsons, Steve Lovell, Mike and Cindy Lovell, all of Sandston; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Flora Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Berlin Hanks officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park, Boones Mill. Mrs. Odom was born December 17, 1913 in Burlington, N.C., a daughter of the late John Gerome Rogers and Myrtle Holt Rogers. She was a member of the Davis Street United Methodist Church and also the Builders Class. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Jane Odom Gray and Roy Lee Gray, Glasgow; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jerome D. Odom and Toni Odom, Columbia, S.C.; one brother, Dr. Max P. Rogers, New Bern, N.C.; three grandchildren, Kimberly Wentz, Charlottesville, Julia Cate, Columbia, S.C., Lee Gray, Columbia, S.C. She was born in Wythe Co. on August 25, 1923 and was the daughter of the late James Wallace Cox and Alice Sayers Cox. She attended the First Pentecostal Holiness Church, Pulaski, and she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl McDowell Tuell Sr. Surviving are one daughter, Dorothy (Dottie) Tuell, Pulaski; son and daughter-in-law, Earl M. and Susan Tuell Jr., Riner; one sister, Anna Mae Sposa, Northern Virginia; four grandchildren, Mark Tuell, Dublin, Kenny Tuell, Salem, Chris Tuell, Blacksburg, Robbie Tuell, Riner; two great-granddaughters, Myrandi Tuell, Dublin, Amy Elizabeth Tuell, Salem; two great-grandsons, Steven Tuell, Salem, Jacob Tuell, Dublin. WEEKS, Edna Sue Cox, 90, of Edge Hill Farm, Shawsville, died Wednesday, August 16, 1995, at Brandon Oaks Health Cente r in Roanoke. She was the widow of H.G. Weeks and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Christiansburg, serving there since 1954. Mrs. Weeks had led an active life, having taught Sunday School at St. Paul Church and was a member of the Women's Auxiliary there. She was a member of the Christiansburg Book Club and gave a considerable amount of time as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and other charitable organizations. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Stewart of Blacksburg, Mrs. Charlotte Sandy of Roanoke; nine grandchildren, Linda Sue Weeks, William Guy Weeks, Linda Stewart Scimeca, Douglas Stewart, Caroline Stewart, Charlotte Stewart Chess, Sherrie Sandy Rollins, William Gresham Sandy Jr., and Mark Steven Sandy; also seven great-grandchildren, Kenneth Coleman Stewart, Catherine Greer Stewart, Connor Thomas Chess, Ryan Andrew Scimeca, Jonathan Craig Scimeca, Lily Palmer Rollins, and Story Gresham Sandy. Mrs. Weeks was preceded in death by four sisters. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 19, from St. Paul United Methodist Church, Christiansburg, conducted by the pastor, The Rev. Douglas Kanney. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Roanoke. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. The body rests at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg, where friends may call anytime on Friday.
