Iyengar has lived in the New River Valley since 1992, working in home health care. She also served as a volunteer and consultant to the hospice before accepting her new post.
Iyengar holds a master's degree in social work administration and has completed a post-master's fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital's Institute of Health Professions in Boston. She replaces Judi Brack.
New River Hospice provides care and services for terminally ill people and their families, including indigent patients. It is a community-based program not affiliated with any hospital. The hospice is a state licensed not-for-profit agency that is Medicare/Medicaid certified.
The hospice, previously in Blacksburg, now is at 111 W. Main St. in Christiansburg, across from Kroger.
