CELEBRATIONS - ANNIVERSARIES

Angle anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Glenn Angle celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday, August 19th. They were married on August 19, 1945 by Rev. Luther B. Williamson at Wheatland Lutheran Church near Fincastle. Mrs. Angle is the former Lucille Eugenia Cronise of Fincastle. Mr. Angle is retired from Norfolk Southern Railway and Mrs. Angle is retired from Heironimus and currently works for Leggett at Valley View. A reception in their honor was given by their children and grandchildren at Melrose Baptist Church. After the reception, the family joined their parents for a surprise dinner at the Charcoal Steak House.

Bowyer anniversary

Clarence and Dorothy Bowyer celebrated their 45th Wedding Anniversary on August 18 at the Vinton War Memorial. The celebration was hosted by their daughters, Linda and her husband, Jack Dooley; Sharon and her husband, Mickey Wanzer, and grandson's Joshua Dooley and Luke Wanzer.

The couple was married on August 19, 1950 in Thaxton, Va.

The couple are Bedford County residents and are members of Jeters Chapel Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Bowyer is the former Dorothy Spradlin of Vinton. She has been a volunteer for many activities and has enjoyed an active life as a homemaker. Mr. Bowyer served in the Navy and was owner of Bowyer Tile Shop and is now retired from being self-employed. They are planning a trip to the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee.

\ Haag anniversary

Harold and Catharine Haag celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 6, 1995. The celebration took place at Hidden Valley Country Club in Salem, Va.

The couple were married on August 5, 1945 at St. Pa uls Reformed Church in Robesonia, Pa.

Mrs. Haag, the former Catharine A. Hill of Robesonia, Pa., is retired after 30 years of teaching experience including 17 years at Morningside School in Roanoke City.

They have a daughter and son-in-law, Dolly and Alvin Callahan of Vinton, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Denise Haag of Ashland, Ohio; five grandchildren, Elizabeth and Ellen Callahan; Jonathan, Stephanie and Alexandria Haag.

Mr. Haag is a retired G.E. manager, member of Taylor Lodge #23, Roanoke Consistory and Kazim Temple. Both are members of Windsor Hills Methodist Church.

Many relatives from Pennsylvania, and friends from the Roanoke and Salem areas attended the celebration which was made special by their presence.

The family thanks everyone who shared in this occasion.

\ Phillips anniversary

Kathy and Andrew Phillips will celebrate their first anniversary on August 24, 1995. The couple were married in Floyd County on August 24, 1994.

She's the former Kathy Robinson. He is the owner of Ajax Painting Company, and she is employed by Montgomery County Dept. of Social Services.

\ Radford anniversary

Paul H. and Edith C. Radford celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 6, 1995 at the Sunnybrook Inn. The celebration was hosted by their daughters and sons-in-law, Harold and Brenda Lacks, and Tommy and Bonnie Howell. They were married on August 6, 1945 in Fincastle, Va., by the Rev. W.D. Sheets. Mrs. Radford is the former Edith L. Craft.

In addition to their two daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Radford have four grandchildren and one great-grandson, which were all in attendance. Paul is retired from Rental Uniform Service in Vinton. They are members of the Garden City Grace Brethren Church.

\ Shepherd anniversary

James A. and Dorothy G. Shepherd celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 5, 1995. The celebration was held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Pulaski, Va., and was hosted by their children, Ted Shepherd, Mary Harris and Peggy Leonard. Approximately 75 guests, family and friends were in attendance. The couple was married August 1, 1935, in the parsonage of Methodist Church, Wytheville, by Pastor A. V. Rhudy. They have lived in Pulaski for 52 years. Mrs. Shepherd is the former Dorothy Gallemore. The couple's children are Ted Shepherd, Seaford, Del., Mary Sue Harris, Parkville, Md., and Peggy Lou Leonard, Blountville, Tenn. They have nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Shepherd was employed by Hercules, Inc. at R.A.A.P. and is now retired. They are both members of O.E.S. James is a member of Shrine Kazim Temple.

\ Williams anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. George W. Williams celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 19, 1995. The celebration was held at Shawsville Middle School.

The couple were married August 19, 1945 in Arlington, Virginia. She's the former Ida Lou Compton of Shawsville, Va.

The party was hosted by their children, Carol Watterson and her husband, Steve; Jimmy Williams and his wife, Laurie; and their grandchildren.

Mrs. Williams is a lifetime resident of Shawsville and Mr. Williams has resided there 48 years.

Mr. Williams is a U.S. Navy veteran and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He is retired from Southland Life Insurance Co.

Mr. and Mrs. Williams are members of White Memorial United Methodist Church.
