The Franklin County Historical Society's annual picnic will be held Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Franklin Recreational Park on Virginia 619.
The Boyd Brothers, a bluegrass gospel group from Willis, will entertain. The society will provide refreshments.
Contributions to defray expenses will be accepted.
From Rocky Mount, go south on Main Street (U.S. 220 Business) 3.3 miles, then left onto Virginia 619. The park is 2.3 miles farther on the right. The picnic shelter is behind the park lot, to the right.

Peggy Crawford will sign copies of her book, ``Stitching the Wildflowers,'' at the University Volume Two Bookstore in Blacksburg during the University Mall's Fall Festival and Craft Show on Aug. 26 from 10 a.m.-noon.
Mary Campagna-Hamlin will be signing copies of her book, ``Gainsboro: The Destruction of a Historic Community,'' at Books Strings & Things on the Roanoke City Market on Saturday from 1-3 p.m.
