In addition to his five titles, which is a record, Beecroft also has captured the qualifying medal a record three times. Last year, following a so-so first day of qualifying, with a 3-over-par 75, Beecroft breezed to a 4-under-par 66 the second day, finishing with 141, another record.
All of Beecroft's titles have been in even years, in 1986, 1988, 1990, 1992 and 1994.
The only other former winners listed in the field are 1989 title holder Henry Kerfoot of McLean, retired Gen. Jim Gunn of Alexandria, who won in 1985, and Lexington left-hander Blair Nicely, who won in 1982.
The low 31 scorers will join Beecroft in two matches Wednesday and Thursday, with the final two survivors meeting over 18 holes Friday morning for the championship.
