ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The Roanoke Regional Airport boarded 26,706 passengers last month, down 21.58 percent from 34,056 the prior July and off 10.69 percent from 29,901 in June. For the year to date, the airport reported, 186,786 people have boarded planes here compared to 210,674 for the first seven months of 1994, a drop of 11.34 percent.

Mark Courtney, spokesman for the airport, said passenger traffic is about flat compared to two years ago. Last year, the number of passengers spurted up 22 percent because of airline fare wars. The downturn is a national trend, he said.

Courtney said July is not as good a month as June because leisure trips cannot make up the loss in business travel.
