EARNINGS

Uni-Marts Inc.

Uni-Marts Inc. has reported record third-quarter net earnings of $793,208 for the quarter ending June 29, an increase of 14.3 percent over last year's. Earnings per share for the quarter were 13 cents, compared with 10 cents last year.

Revenues, including sales and other income, increased to $84.9 million from $80.5 million last year.

For the first nine months of the company''s fiscal year, net earnings increased by 13.4 percent, from $2.4 million to $2.7 million, and earnings per share increased to 43 cents from 35 cents. Revenues for the nine months were $238 million, compared with $241.3 million last year.

Chesapeake Corp.

Chesapeake Corp. of Richmond, which operates a box plant in Roanoke, reported net income of $18.5 million, or 77 cents a share of common stock, for the second quarter of 1995, a 267 percent increase over earnings of $4.9 million, or 21 cents per share, last year.

Net sales for the quarter were $315.1 million, up 33 percent from $236.9 million last year.

Earnings for the first six months were $39.3 million, or $1.64 per share, an increase of 447 percent from $6.9 million, or 30 cents per share, last year. Sales for the first six months were $606.2 million, an increase of 35 percent over last year's $448.9 million.

Roanoke Electric Steel Corp.

Roanoke Electric Steel Corp. has reported earnings of $5.18 million, or 65 cents per share, of common stock for the quarter ending July 31, a 192 percent increase over the $1.78 million, or 22 cents per share, earned during the same period of 1994.

The company's earnings were based on sales of $68.6 million, up 23 percent from last year's third quarter.

Earnings for the first nine months of the company's 1995 fiscal year were $13.3 million, or $1.65 per share, compared with earnings of $4.24 million, or 53 cents per share, during the same period last year. Sales for the nine months were $188.3 million, compared with $154.6 million last year.

Roanoke Electric Steel said the company expects to set a sales record in 1995. Higher selling prices, increased sales and cost cutting have improved earnings, the company said.

The company said it has awarded contracts for a new ladle furnace and upgrading of an electric arc furnace, allowing the company to increase production, improve quality and decrease costs. Completion of the work is expected in January.
