WRECKED CAR YIELDS DRUG CACHE

Police found two bricks of cocaine with an estimated street value of $14,000 in an overturned, rented car in Southeast Roanoke early Monday.

About 3:11 a.m., officers responded to an accident in the 1000 block of Riverland Road and found an overturned 1995 Toyota. Investigators believe the car was traveling east on Riverland Road when it ran off the pavement, hit a stump and overturned in a ditch.

Police discovered 329.5 grams of cocaine divided into two bricks and covered in electrical tape. A Roanoke County police dog was used to assist officers in tracking the driver, who was not at the scene.

Police would not release the name of the person who rented the car. They would say only that he is a Roanoke man.
