SWING DANCING STARTS IN SEPTEMBER

Starting in September, the Southwest Virginia Swing Dance Society will hold monthly dances and informal practice sessions or "Swing Swaps." Dances will be held at the Blacksburg Community Center and Swing Swaps at the Unitarian Fellowship Hall. The events are smoke- and alcohol-free, no partner is necessary, and beginners are welcome.

The Southwest Virginia Swing Dance Society promotes swing dancing in the New River Valley area. This type of dancing includes various styles such as the Jitterbug, Lindy Hop, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing and Balboa, danced to music from the big band era, early rock 'n roll, and rhythm 'n' blues.

Instruction for beginners is provided at the beginning of each dance and "Swing Swaps" provide opportunities for new dancers to learn from more experienced dancers in an informal setting. There is a nominal admission charge to these events to cover expenses. To receive a newsletter or for more information, call 381-5028.
