The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the Aug. 9 break-in.
Capt. O.P. Ramsey said someone entered the Big Boy between 12:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Aug. 9 by removing a screen to a vent.
The safe had been bolted to the floor, but someone unbolted it and took it. An undisclosed amount of money was in the safe, Ramsey said.
The dismantled safe was found Sunday by people playing in the Little River near the Montgomery-Floyd county line.
Anyone with information about the break-in and theft may call Ramsey at 382-6912.
