GILMORE STUMPS FOR LINKOUS|

Attorney General Jim Gilmore said Tuesday the 12th District race will be a pivotal opportunity as Virginia Republicans try to gain a House of Delegates' majority.

Republicans head into the November election needing only three more seats to control the 100-member House for the first time. Gilmore, speaking on behalf of candidate Larry Linkous, said, "This is a seat we can win."

Gilmore addressed about 20 local elected officials and members of the local bar association at an afternoon gathering at Custom Catering. He noted the GOP also needs to win an additional three seats to control the 40-member State Senate.

"It's time for a Republican majority in the General Assembly. We cannot continue this progress ... without him," Gilmore said of Linkous, who is challenging incumbent Del. Jim Shuler, D-Blacksburg.

Gilmore said Linkous, who is chairman of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors, will be a strong candidate because he "grows out of the roots of this community."
