CHRISTIANSBURG - The citizens advisory committee working on the "smart" road project meets Thursday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m at the Virginia Department of Transportation division office, 105 Cambria St.
Three possible designs for the smart road bridge in Ellett Valley will be presented. Committee members also will discuss five resolutions they have passed regarding the smart road. The public is welcome.
Ducks Unlimited event Sunday
SNOWVILLE - The New River Valley Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its annual Greenwing event Sunday, Aug. 27, at Chuck Long's farm. The event starts at 2 p.m., and a picnic follows at 5 p.m. The cost is $2 per person.
Greenwing membership is open to children and youths age1 to 18. Dues are $10.
Activities include swimming and water games, a BB gun marksmanship competition and an auction.

CHRISTIANSBURG - The American Academic and Cultural Exchange Program seeks host families in the New River Valley for four Russian high school students. The students, in grades nine and 10, are scheduled to arrive in September and would leave at the end of the school year.

`Long Way Home' season finale
DRAPER - The cast of "The Long Way Home" presents the season's final performance of the Mary Draper Ingles story Saturday, Sept. 2., 8:30 p.m.
A "strike-the-set" party follows the performance at the Ingles Homestead Amphitheater, sponsored by the board of directors of the Long Way Home Corp., a nonprofit, volunteer organization.
