HABITAT NAMES FULL-TIME EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

CHRISTIANSBURG - Habitat for Humanity, an ecumenical Christian ministry that tries to eliminate substandard housing, is growing in the New River Valley and has hired its first full-time executive director. She is Terri Fitzwater, a resident of Dublin, who has worked in community services since her graduation from Bluefield State College.

Fitzwater has been meeting with churches and businesses to encourage their assistance. Charter Federal Savings and Loan in Pulaski donated $2,000, which Habitat used to secure one of three new properties for future houses.

Habitat for Humanity continues to need volunteers on Saturdays and will accept donations of money, material, land and labor. For more information, call Fitzwater at 382-8621.

Community Christian Church in Newbern will celebrate homecoming Sunday with Glenn Hughes from Bloomington, Ind., as a guest speaker at 8:45 a.m. and 11 a.m., and Robin Quesenberry of Knoxville, Tenn., at 6 p.m. A potluck dinner will be a 12:45 p.m. and music will be at 5 p.m. 674-4308.

The Blackwood Brothers will perform at Main Street Baptist Church in Christiansburg Sunday at 7 p.m. The quartet performs music from 60 years of singing and recording. The performance is free, but a love offering will be taken. 382-2160.
