Air Force Senior Airman Nathan J. Pauley, a secure communications maintenance specialist, recently reported for duty at the Pentagon in Washington.
Pauley graduated from Shawsville High School in 1991 and received an associate degree in 1993 from the Community College at the Air Force. He is the son of James and Jean Pauley of Elliston.
Brian Griffith recently joined the U.S. Army under the delayed enlistment program at the U.S. Army Recruiting Station in Christiansburg. The program allows Griffith to delay enlistment into the Army for up to one year before reporting to basic military training.
A 1993 graduate of Floyd County High School, Griffith will report for basic training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.
He is the son of Buford and Nancy Griffith of Christiansburg.
Christopher Hill recently attended the ROTC advanced camp at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Cadets who are between their third and fourth year of college attend the camp. Completion of the camp and graduation from college results in a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Guard or Reserve.
Hill, a student at Western Carolina University, is the son of Jerry and Brenda Hill of Blacksburg.
Coast Guard fireman apprentice Charles Bennett recently reported for duty at Coast Guard Station Milford Haven in Hudgins.
A 1991 graduate of Pulaski County High School, Bennett joined the Coast Guard in April 1995. He is the son of Jerry and Kathy Bennett of Dublin.
Army Spec. Michael Sparta recently completed basic training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Sparta is the son of Barbara Griffin of Christiansburg.
Navy Seaman recruit Delinda McCoy recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. McCoy is a 1990 graduate of Christiansburg High School.
Navy fireman recruit David Melton recently departed for a six-month overseas deployment aboard the USS New Orleans. Melton is one of 2,685 sailors and Marines aboard the ship, which departed from San Diego.
A 1994 graduate of Pulaski County High School, Melton joined the Navy in July 1994. He is the son of Douglas and Stella Melton of Pulaski.
Marine Pvt. Matthew Snow recently completed the 11 weeks of training required to earn the title Marine. The training was conducted at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
A 1994 graduate of Blacksburg High School, he is the son of Charles and Suzanne Snow of Blacksburg.
Marine Pfc. Byron Sargent of Pearisburg was promoted to his present rank while serving with Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Sargent graduated from Giles High School in 1994 and joined the Marine Corps in October 1994.
Army Pvt. Charles Swartz recently entered basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Swartz graduated from Christiansburg High School in 1991. He is the son of Rebecca and John Swartz of Christiansburg.
