ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The Consumer Price Index, the nation's major measure of inflation, was unchanged between June and July, even though prices rose a slight 0.2 percent for the month.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that small increase wasn't enough to nudge up the index, which stood at 152.5 points for both months. The figure was up 2.8 percent from 148.4 in July 1994.

That latter change means that goods and services that cost $148.40 a year ago would have required an outlay of $152.50 last month.

If the government still used 1967 as a base year of 100 points instead of the current average of prices in 1982-84, the index would have stood at 457.0 last month. That means that goods and services costing $100 in 1967 would have cost $457 last month.
