TRANSVESTITE WITH KNIFE ROBS MOTORIST

A 24-year-old motorist was mugged at knifepoint by a man dressed as a woman early Tuesday in Southwest Roanoke.

The man told police that he stopped at 10th Street and Salem Avenue about 6 a.m. and a man leaned into the car, placing a knife to his throat. The man opened the driver's-side door, crawled in and sat in the passenger's seat.

He told the motorist that he had a gun in his purse. The motorist gave his wallet to the man, who took out $6. The man said he wanted more money, and the motorist drove him to Irvine Street Southwest, where the man fled.

No arrest had been made Wednesday afternoon.
