BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech's Public Service Programs and several other area organizations and agencies will sponsor a seminar on the "Theory of Constraints" Sept. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Tech's Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center.
The Theory of Constraints analyzes constraints that all systems face and experience. Constraint management is an increasingly important and popular field in business and industry.
Other sponsors include Southwest Virginia Community College, Procurement Assistance Center, U.S. Small Business Administration and the Virginia Department of Economic Development.

Disaster services volunteers sought
CHRISTIANSBURG - Volunteers are being recruited by the Montgomery County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Volunteers are needed for the chapter's three disaster services teams: Disaster Action Team, Mass Care Team and Health Services Team.
Teams respond to small and large situations to help families with food, clothing and shelter after a disaster. The Red Cross provides training for all three teams.

NRV Hospice volunteer training
CHRISTIANSBURG - New River Valley Hospice will hold training sessions for new volunteers beginning Sept. 20, 2-4:30 p.m., at Blacksburg United Methodist Church. The sessions will run for 11 weeks. Volunteers are needed for home care, bereavement care, fund-raising efforts and office support.
The hospice is a nonprofit, Medicare-certified, community-based, licensed health care agency that provides care to people with terminal illnesses and to their families. The organization serves Montgomery, Giles, Floyd and Pulaski counties and Radford.

Kool Country airs Demon games
CHRISTIANSBURG - Football season has arrived and Kool Country (100.7 FM/990 AM) will carry the entire season of Christiansburg High School football.
John Hale and John Beamer, official voices of Christiansburg football, will give play-by-play action. Kool Country is the only radio station carrying Christiansburg's football games.
Kool Country will also air the entire season of Roanoke Express hockey team.
Rugby club is tourney host
BLACKSBURG - The Blacksbur
It starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at the club's field, located behind Gables Shopping Center off Main Street. The tournament continues until the championship game Sunday at 2 p.m.
A strong field of teams will compete in this year's tournament, including Richmond Rugby Club, Charlotte Old Originals, Roanoke Rugby Club, Knoxville Rugby Club, Richmond Rats and Johnson City Rugby Club.
