Moore scored 11 of her 21 points in the second half and Hicks had 15 of her 21 in the second half as the Cavaliers (1-0), who will meet Alleghany tonight on the second day of the tournament, broke open a two-point game at halftime.
Katrina Elliott added 10 points for Lord Botetourt.
Magna Vista (0-1), which will play 1994 Group AA champion R.E. Lee-Staunton tonight, was led by Sandi Reid, who scored a team-high 14. Tanesia Kellam added 13.
R.E. Lee Staunton 56, Alleghany 51: Katrina Lassiter had 13 points as reigning Group AA champion Lee built a nine-point halftime lead in beating the Mountaineers on the first day of the Lord Botetourt Invitational in Daleville.
Erin Printy added 12 points for R.E. Lee-Staunton (1-0).
Alleghany (0-1) got a game-high 19 points from Katie Craft, including three 3-pointers. Melissa Page added 13 for the Mountaineers, who couldn't overcome a nine-point halftime deficit.
William Byrd 59, Glenvar 31 Cathy Smith, Stephanie Parnell and Brandy Allen scored 10 points each and led a third quarter surge as the Terriers' crushed the Highlanders in the William Byrd Tip-Off Tournament at William Byrd High School.
Parnell scored eight in the third quarter and Smith and Allen added six each as the Terriers (1-0) outscored Glenvar 23-7 in the third quarter to pull away. The Terriers will play Martinsville tonight on the second night of the tournament.
Glenvar (0-1), who will play Northside tonight, was led by Erica Hale, who scored a game-high 12 points.
Martinsville 61, Northside 38 Freshman Tekeshia Mitchell and sophomore Jamie Farrington scored 12 points each to lead four players in double figures as Martinsville rolled past Northside in the William Byrd Tip-off Tournament at William Byrd High School.
Tonya Martin and Erica Brandon added 11 each for the Bulldogs (1-0), who will meet William Byrd tonight.
Crystal Barrett and Rosse Hopkins led Northside (0-1) with seven each. The Vikings will take on Glenvar tonight.
Floyd County 72, Fieldale-Collinsville 64: The reigning Group A champion Buffaloes used 19 points from Julie Sowers and 18 from Melissa Cantrell to secure their 57th consecutive victory, a triumph over the Group AA Cavaliers at the Lady Buffs Invitational in Floyd.
Sowers scored nine of her 19 in the third quarter as Floyd County (1-0) opened a 13-point lead.
Cantrell scored 12 of her 18 in the first quarter - all on 3-pointers - before getting into foul trouble. Sara Connor chipped in 11 points for the Buffaloes, who will play Patrick County tonight on the second day of the tournament.
Carrie Quinlan scored 13 of her team-high 17 points in the first half to lead four scorers in double figures for Fieldale-Collinsville (0-1), which will play Blacksburg tonight.
Blacksburg 51, Patrick County 47: April Rogers hit four free throws in the last 37 seconds to lift the Indians over the Cougars at the Lady Buffs Invitational in Floyd.
Rogers, who made 11 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter, hit two with 37 seconds left to give Blacksburg a 49-47 lead. After Patrick County committed a turnover, Rogers was fouled again and made two free throws with four seconds left to provide the final margin.
Rogers scored 13 of her game-high 19 in the second half after sitting for most of the first half and third quarter because of foul trouble.
Blacksburg (1-0) will play Fieldale-Collinsville tonight. Patrick County (0-1) will meet Floyd County.
