TOWN COUNCILMAN WILLIAM MILLS DIES

William James "Willie" Mills Jr., 32-year member of Rocky Mount Town Council and onetime vice mayor, died Wednesday. He was 78.

Mills was first elected to council in 1962. In 1990, he was elected to his eighth consecutive term.

For 50 years, Mills owned and operated the Angle Hardware Co. He also was a member of the boards of directors of Peoples National Bank and First Virginia Bank in Franklin County. Mills also served for a time in the Rocky Mount Volunteer Fire Department.
