CUPP, Zeffie Elizabeth, 86, of Christiansburg, died Tuesday, August 29, 1995, in the Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Cupp; a daughter, Deby B. Cupp; and a son, Samuel Cupp. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Frank Alfred and Ruby Cupp of Blacksburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruby and Marshall Linkous, Blacksburg; grandchildren, Brenda and Donald Dix; Jr. and Ruth Cupp, Timothy and Linda Cupp, Roddy and Beth Cupp; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a special friend, Dexter Moran. LOONEY, Roger M., 75, of Radford, died Wednesday, August 30, 1995, in a Radford hospital. He was a retired employee of Rusco, a veteran of World War II, serving as a 2nd Lt. in the Army Air Force. He was a long time member of the Old Pros Band in the New River Valley area. Surviving are his wife, Thalia J. Looney, Radford; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Donnie Sutphin, Dublin; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Maxine Looney, Chester; one sister, Pansie Looney Murray, Roanoke; a sister and brother-in-law, Opal L. and Lawrence J. Willard, New Hope; two grandsons; two stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with the Rev. MILLS, William James Jr., (``Willie''), 78, of 306 Walnut St., Rocky Mount, died Wednesday, August 30, 1995. Mr. Mills was the owner and operator of Angle Hardware Company for 50 years; was a member of the Rocky Mount Town Council for 32 years, where he served as Vice-Mayor; was a member of the Board of Directors of Peoples National Bank and First Virginia Bank, Franklin County for 24 years; was a member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Stewards and had been a member of the Rocky Mount Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, Alice Kent Mills, of the home: two daughters and a son-in-law, Sarah M. Collins, The Woodlands, Texas, Lynn M. and Richard H. Poff Jr., Tullahoma, Tenn; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Kent and Karen Kessler Mills, Ferrum, William James (Jim) Mills III, Rocky Mount; his grandchildren, Roseanne and Peter Jacob, Mitchell Benjamin Jr. and Sharon Strohan-Bowman, Laura E. PATSEL, Russell L., 81, of Roanoke County, died Tuesday, August 29, 1995. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a longtime member of the Red Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Patsel was retired from Skyline Lumber and was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Sink Patsel; a son, Kenneth R. Patsel. Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney L. and Shirley N. Patsel, Vinton, William D. and Debby L. Patsel, Roanoke, Janice H. Patsel, Chester; grandchildren, David, Anthony, April, Nikki, Ronda, Shannon, and Billy II; six great-grandchildren. PLESS, A. Glenn, Jr., 88, of Glendale Road, Galax, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 1995. He was the son of A. Glenn Pless Sr. and Maude Nucholls Pless. He is survived by his wife, KenEtta Fulton Pless; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John G. Pless Sr., Galax, Robert S. Pless and Kay B. Pless, Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Pless was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Galax, where he served in several capacities. He was president of Pless Furniture Co., Inc., with stores in Galax, Fries, Wytheville, Pulaski and Radford. He was active in church, community and State affairs. He was past president of the Galax Retail Merchants Association, the Virginia Retail Merchants Association, and the Southern Retail Merchants Association; and he was a delegate to the National Furniture Association. For many years Mr. Pless was on the Board of Directors of the former Merchants and Farmers Bank, the Vaughan Memorial Library, the Twin County Community Hospital and other organizations. He was active in establishing the Matthews Memorial Museum, where he was a member of its Board of Directors. He was instrumental in bringing Hanes Knitting Company to Galax. He was on the Galax Town Council and served as Vice Mayor. He was past president of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Galax Rotary Club and other civic organizations. Because he was active in various business organizations, Mr. Pless was awarded the prestigious Willis Award of Merit, and he received several other awards including Small Businessman of the Year, Retailer of the Year from the Virginia Retail Merchants Association, the Galax Leaf Award, the F.W. Loyalty Day Award, the Outstanding Community Service Award from the Galax-Caroll-Grayson Chamber of Commerce and Sara Lee Products, the First Citizen Award from the Galax Moose Lodge, and the WDBJ-7 Hometown Hero Citation. Mr. Pless graduated from Seabreeze High School, D aytona Beach, Fla., and he attended the University of Florida. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 1, 1995, at the First United Methodist Church, Galax, with interment in the Felts Memorial Cemetery. Officiating Minister, the Rev. Kenneth Perkins. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Galax, or the Matthews Memorial Museum, Galax.
