BEDFORD DRIVER HIT BY TRAIN ESCAPES INJURY

A Bedford County woman escaped injury Thursday when she drove her car in front of a Norfolk Southern train in Bedford, according to Bedford police.

Officer F.E. Harmony said Lovonia J. Orange, 26, drove in front of a train at the Ruff Drive railroad crossing about 5:45 p.m.

The train hit the front end of the car, causing the vehicle to spin. The car was hit again on the rear end, Harmony said.

Despite the severity of the damage, estimated at $22,000, Orange walked away from the accident unharmed, Harmony said.

Police charged Orange with failure to stop at a railroad crossing.
