WYTHEVILLE - The Citizens Advisory Committee of the Wytheville Town Council studied residents' reactions to the options offered in a survey on trash pickup charges.
Responses so far show that residents favored a charge of $1 per bag picked up each week. An early count showed 629 voting for that option, and 231 voting for a flat $12 monthly fee regardless of how many bags are picked up.
More votes are coming in. The committee reviewed them and will make a recommendation at the next council meeting.
The town has not charged for weekly trash pickup, but disposal costs now make it necessary, officials say.
