HOW TO USE THE PUBLIC ACCESS CHANNEL

ROANOKE, ROANOKE COUNTY, VINTON:

Cox Cable Roanoke has a studio, video cameras and a control room available in its headquarters to produce public access programming for Channel 9.

The studio and equipment are available free of charge to interested citizens who live in Cox Cable's franchise area.

Cox also offers free training in TV production, which is mandatory for people who want to produce programming for public access but who are unfamiliar with use of video equipment.

People in the franchise area may have preproduced programs from elsewhere aired on Channel 9, so long as they are noncommercial.

SALEM:

Boothe Communications, franchisee for Salem Cable TV, has a public access channel but no studio that is open to the public. In general, the channel is available to run public service announcements only. Residents of the city may write the company with the announcement they want on the air. BLACKSBURG:

The town of Blacksburg has run its access channel, WTOB, for 10 years. It has a studio, cameras and control room that is open to Blacksburg residents, free of charge.

Training in the use of the equipment is available to citizens.

On request, WTOB will also air public access programming produced elsewhere.
