HOMESTEAD HOSTS SENIOR PGA EVENT

The Homestead will hold its first Senior PGA Tour event on Sept.19 when 10 top players from the over-50 tour will play in the Merrill Lynch Senior Shoot-Out Championship.

Admission is free, and The Homestead is welcoming spectators for a crowded gallery because the Shoot-Out will be taped for airing on Christmas Day on ESPN.

There is a $10 charge per vehicle for parking, and The Homestead will provide transportation from parking lots to the Cascades course.

The PGA will announce the 10 players for the nine-hole $500,000 event on Wednesday or Thursday. Expected among the field is Hot Springs resident J.C. Snead, who ranks No.6 on the Senior PGA money-winning list.

The format on the par-70 layout has the player with the highest score on each hole eliminated until two players remain to battle on the ninth hole.
