CHASED CAR RAMS DEPUTY SHERIFF'S CAR

A car chase involving the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and a Blacksburg man ended early Sunday when the suspect crashed into a deputy sheriff's patrol car in Christiansburg.

Matthew Scott Foster fled when Deputy A.D. Price tried to pull him over on Virginia 114 and Prices Fork Road about 2:30 a.m., according to Sgt. W.E. Wiatt of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

Price pursued Foster east on Virginia 114 and continued to North Franklin and the Virginia 460 bypass.

The chase ended when Foster's car struck a Montgomery County deputy sheriff's patrol car from behind, Wiatt said. The deputy driving the car, D.R. Hall, apparently was trying to stop Foster, he said.

Hall was admitted to Montgomery Regional Hospital with an injured back.

Foster has been charged with reckless driving and attempting to elude a police officer, causing bodily injury.

The Virginia State Police is investigating the accident.
