SOWERS-LED BUFFALOES STOMP BLACKSBURG 84-67

Sophomore Julie Sowers scored 14 of her game-high 21 points in the first half as Floyd County rolled past Blacksburg 84-67 on Saturday at the Lady Buffs Invitational in Floyd, giving Alan Cantrell his 300th victory as a girls' coach.

Cantrell's victories have come at three schools - Floyd County, Whitewood and Tazewell.

Jill Quesenberry scored 12 of her 16 in the first half as the Buffaloes (3-0) took a 53-27 lead en route to their 59th consecutive victory. Sara Conner added 12 points for Floyd County.

Blacksburg (2-1) rallied in the second half behind April Rogers, who scored 10 of her team-high 17 points in the final two quarters, and Nikki Williams, who had nine of her 13 in the fourth period.

Patrick County 51, Fieldale-Collinsville 43: Amy Nelson scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Cougars past the Cavaliers at the Lady Buffs Invitational in Floyd.

Carrie Quinlan and T.J.Hayes each had 10 points for Fieldale-Collinsville.

Martinsville 46, Glenvar 35: Tresita Holland scored half of the Bulldogs' points as they knocked off the Highlanders at the William Byrd Invitational.

Holland finished with a game-high 23 points for Martinsville (2-1) and was the only Bulldog in double figures.

Glenvar (1-2), which led by one at halftime and trailed by three after three quarters, was led by Amy Layman and Erica Hale, who scored 12 each.
