ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

Home sales in the Roanoke Valley held steady from July to August, but the August number was down 3.9 percent from the same month last year. The Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors said 367 houses were placed under contract last month compared with 365 in July and 382 in August 1994.

Don Constable, association president, said sales were strong considering the hot weather.

On average, buyers paid 3.2 percent less than the listed price. Properties spent an average of 93.8 days on the market.
