MONTGOMERY RSVP APPLE BUTTER JAMBOREE SEPT. 13

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Montgomery County volunteers will make apple butter on Sept. 13, starting at 5 a.m., at Park United Methodist Church, Park Street, Christiansburg. Apple butter will be sold at Christiansburg's Wilderness Trail Festival Sept. 16. Proceeds will go toward repairs on aging vans, holiday and birthday parties for nursing home residents, Christmas stockings, newsletter publication and a volunteer recognition luncheon. On Monday and Tuesday, volunteers will peel about 20 bushels of apples. The jamboree will begin before dawn on Wednesday. Apple butter makers will mix ingredients and stirrers will work in shifts. Canning will be done on site and volunteers will decorate jars. Those interested in seeing apple butter made the old-fashioned way are invited to stop by the church anytime Sept. 13. RSVP is in need of canning jars, rings, lids and sugar. They will arrange to pick up donated items. Call Jo Lambert, 382-5775, for further information.
