MAN CHARGED IN JULY RAPE

Police charged a 22-year-old man with the July rape of a 36-year-old woman at her Southwest Roanoke apartment.

Brian Keith Ferguson of Russell Avenue Southwest was charged with abduction, rape and breaking and entering. Tuesday night he remained in Roanoke City Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.

Police said a woman reported that a man she did not know walked into her Grandin Road apartment through an unlocked door about 1 a.m. July 17. The man told the woman he was not going to hurt her, but wanted something to eat. As the man unplugged her telephone, she attempted to run out of the apartment. Police said the man dragged her back inside.

During the rape, the woman asked the man to use a condom and told him he could find some in a nearby closet. When he walked to the closet, she fled the apartment.

An officer later found the woman's purse in a nearby alley.
