WHO, WHEN & WHERE

B-17 on display

A World War II Boeing B-17 flying fortress, ``The Aluminum Overcast,'' will be displayed at the Roanoke Regional Airport on Sept. 11-12.

The aircraft will be parked adjacent to the old terminal. Tours are available for a $4 donation to cover the cost of fuel and maintenance.

The plane is on a national tour in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.

A membership in the Experimental Aircraft Association B-17 Historical Society is offered for a donation of $475. This entitles the member to a one-hour flight in the airplane with 10 minutes in the pilot's seat, flying the aircraft. Also included is a B-17 leather flight jacket and a photograph of the pilot flying the plane.

Funds generated from the tour will help finance EAA's future restoration projects.

Sidewalk Art Show

Roanoke Festival in the Park has announced that the Sidewalk Art Show, held in conjunction with the festival, will move from Elmwood Park to Salem Avenue next year.

``While we've enjoyed our association with the Sidewalk Art Show, we've also begun to burst our boundaries,'' said Wendi Schulz, Festival's executive director. ``This move will provide the space for us to expand, as well as enhance other Festival activities.''

``We think this step will be beneficial for everyone involved with these two events,'' said Joanne Kuebler, Art Museum of Western Virginia's executive director. ``The move to Salem Avenue will allow for its [Sidewalk Art Show] own expansion.''

The two events will occur simultaneously on the second weekend of Festival.
