THE COL. WILLIAM PRESTON CHAPTER, NATIONAL SOCIETY OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION recently presented its Good Citizenship awards.
The recipients are: Lisa Renee Pendarvis, daughter of John and Betsie Pendarvis, and Nicholas Kevin Sprague, son of Kevin and Anne Sprague, both students at Roanoke Catholic Elementary; Elizabeth Bernier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bernier, and Stephen Herman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Herman, both students at Woodrow Wilson Middle School; and Jan Steffe, daughter of Drs. John Steffe and Lee Ann Steffe, and Ryan Schlueter, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Schlueter, both students at Crystal Spring Elementary.
Donna Hester, daughter of LaWanda and Jerry Hester, received the 1995 ROTC medal. Hester is a student at William Fleming High School.
MARY BREWER LORITSCH, a professor of radiography at Virginia Western Community College, has received a doctor of education degree from Virginia Tech. Her degree was from the education division of curriculum and instruction with a specialization in community health. In addition to completing her doctoral degree, Loritsch was named a Fellow at the 75th American Society of Radiologic Technologists annual conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is only the fourth technologist from Virginia to receive the honor.
BRYN FLEMING HUDGINS, daughter of Karen R. Hudgins of Vinton and John K. Hudgins of Charlotte, N.C., was named to the spring dean's list at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Hudgins is a 1991 graduate of William Byrd High School.
KRISTIN BOURNE of Roanoke and JOHN KINNEY of Vinton have been named to the spring dean's list at High Point (N.C.) University.
ANN BLAIR HANES and ADAM CHILDERS, students at James Madison Middle School in the spring, received the Good Citizenship Medals by the Margaret Lynn Lewis Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
Hanes is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leigh T. Hanes and is president of the Beta Club and works with Special Olympics and Peer Mediator Program.
Childers is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David H. Childers and a member of the Madison soccer, wrestling and tennis teams.
DAWN WEAVER, a William Byrd High School teacher, has won the Blue Ridge Regional Education and Training Council's "World of Work" award in the marketing education division. Also, STEVE OLIVER, an Arnold R. Burton Technology Center instructor in Salem, has won the same award in the precision machining/technology division. The awards recognize teachers who demonstrate excellence in preparing students for work through the integration of career information and exploration within their subject areas.
RYAN KETRON, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ketron, has been named to the 1994-95 Trans American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. The TAAC All-Academic Team consists of student-athletes who earn a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average during the season.
Ketron attends Campbell University, Buies Creek, N.C.
THE LEWIS-GALE FOUNDATION has awarded nearly $85,000 in scholarship funds to students for the 1995-96 academic year.

JOANNE V. JAMES of Roanoke, has been awarded a New York Life Foundation Scholarship for Women in the Health Professions in the amount of $1,000.
James will be a student in the nursing program at Virginia Western Community College in the fall.
TINA WHITESELL of Salem and CHRIS AYERS of Roanoke have been selected by Dominion Business School to represent Virginia at the Phi Beta Lambda National Business Competition in Orlando, Fla.
Whitesell placed second in state competition for impromptu speaking and will compete in the business management category on the national level. Ayers placed third in public speaking on the state level and will compete in the business law category at the national competition.
THERESA MARIE ROBERTSON, a recent graduate of William Fleming High School, has received a $1,500 Byrd Scholarship to attend Harvard University in the fall.
SEVERAL WILLIAM FLEMING HIGH SCHOOL BAND MEMBERS received awards during its final band concert of the 1994-1995 school year.
Winners of the Top Bandsmen award were: DeVon Preston, Fenn Crutchfield, Kim Mays, Erica Lea, Teryck Coles, Amy Johnson, Chris Underwood, Keisha Miller, Omar Kasey, Kory Blackwell, John E. Wright. The award is based on student vote.
Winners of the John Phillip Sousa Award were: Malia Yopp, Teryck Coles, Amy Johnson, John E. Wright. It is presented to the top senior or seniors of the overall band program for the year.
Travis Ringstaff won the Louis Armstrong Award. It is presented to the top senior member of the jazz program for the year.

CHRIS C. ROSEBERRY of Roanoke was named to the dean's list for the spring 1995 quarter at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. Roseberry is a senior majoring in justice studies.
CLAY ETHA PETERS of Roanoke has graduated from Regents College of the University of the State of New York in Albany.
ANDREW J. SHERNOFF, son of Army Lt. Col. Alan F. Shernoff of Roanoke, has received a $500 college scholarship from the Reserve Officers Association of the United States.
The scholarship honors Henry J. Reilly, the late Army Reserve brigadier general who was a founder and the first president of the ROA.
Shernoff, a sophomore at the University of Virginia, received one of 100 scholarships given nationally.
JENNIFER NICOLE MARTIN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. Martin of Roanoke, received a bachelor of arts degree in communication arts from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn.
