The Rev. Dr. William Murdoch Klein, a former Roanoker, has become minister of Lexington Presbyterian Church. A son of the Rev. William R. Klein, the long-time pastor of Roanoke's Second Presbyterian Church, the new minister was unanimously approved late last month to succeed the Rev. Dr. Randolph Harrison. The new Lexington pastor come from First Presbyterian Church in New Bern, N.C., where he has served since 1987. He is married to the Rev. Deborah E.Heckel Klein and was co-pastor with her of a Danville congregation before the arrival of their three children. Now 41, William M. Klein is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke, Hampden-Sydney College and Union Theological Seminary.
Harrison currently has an interim pastorate in Staunton.
Renovation to start
Renovation of a home for mentally retarded adults in the Martinsville area will begin with a ceremony Sunday at 4 p.m. at 416 Mulberry Road in Martinsville. The group home is a project of the Developmental Disabilities Committee of the Henry County Baptist Association and the Virginia Baptist Children's Home and Family Services in Salem. Mormons to meet
Members of congregations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Western Virginia will be host Sunday to a regional conference at the Roanoke Civic Center Auditorium. Dr. Dane C.McBride, Roanoke Stake president, said such conferences are held only every four or five years and include speakers from Mormon church headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be from 10 a.m. to noon.
Relief funds
Three recent hunger relief events in Franklin County have brought in $35,000, according to Laird Bowman, chair from Antioch Church of the Brethren, one of the major supporters. A hike, a bicycle ride and an all-day auction and festival raised funds for projects nearby, in Haiti and in other areas of need.
Bible institute
Tri-State Baptist Bible Institute at Fort Chiswell opens for its second year Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Registration is needed before that date; call 223-1044. The institute is a ministry of Jubilee Baptist Church and offers classes as an independently constituted evangelical Protestant school with the Rev. Donnie Keller, pastor of Jubilee Baptist, and the Rev.Dr. David Schutt of Princeton, W.Va. the major instructors.
