BLACKSBURG PRIMARY CARE

Location: 2801 South Main St. in Blacksburg

Phone: 951-9186

Hours: Monday through Friday, 5:30 to 9 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Sundays, 1 to 5 p.m. Appointments are taken, but walk-ins are welcome.

Mission: Like a similar new service in Radford called Blue Ridge Primary Care, Blacksburg Primary Care is part of a trend in health services that tries to provide after-hours acute health care at a price that is cheaper than an emergency room visit.

Acute care medical problems may include respiratory conditions, digestive problems, skin difficulties and musculoskeletal problems. The facility will treat injuries, too, such as sprains, strains, contusions and lacerations.

However, this facility is not a substitute for an emergency room. Seriously injured or sick people should go to a hospital.

Fees: Most major insurance contracts will be accepted. Workman's compensation cases are welcome, as are MasterCard and Visa.

Owners: The facility will be staffed, on a rotating basis, by local Drs. Todd Davis, Scott Jamison, William Hendricks, David Hudgins, Lucian Robinson, Robert Stockburger and Chad Thompson.
