Figure-skater Nancy Kerrigan married her agent, Jerry Solomon, who helped keep her going after an attack plotted by a rival's associates.
Although the church ceremony was closed to fans, hundreds crowded the streets of Boston's Back Bay section to catch a glimpse of the Olympic skater as she wed Solomon, an agent with the ProServ firm who has been called one of the most influential people in sports.
Kerrigan's fame spilled out of the skating world at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in January 1994 when she was clubbed on the knee by a man hired by rival skater Tonya Harding. Kerrigan, a bronze medalist in 1992, recovered from the attack to win a silver medal at the '94 Games in Lillehammer, Norway. Harding failed to medal and later pleaded guilty to helping cover up the assault conspiracy.
U.S. champion John Roethlisberger had a 9.8 on the horizontal bar in the optional portion of the World Team Trials in Austin, Texas, to lead qualifiers for the World Championships.
Roethlisberger, Blaine Wilson, Mihai Bagiu, Kip Simons, Jair Lynch and Josh Stein earned spots on the seven-man U.S. team for the World Championships on Oct.1-10 in Sabae, Japan. John Macready and Brian Yee will compete for the final spot and the alternate position.
The scores from the meet counted for 60 percent of the qualifying total, with the other 40 percent determined in the national meet.
In a battle between past and present national champions, Dominique Moceanu edged Shannon Miller for the top qualifying spot among the women.
Moceanu, the current champion, and 1993 winner Miller will be joined by 1994 champion Dominique Dawes, Jaycie Phelps, Kerri Strug, Amy Chow and Doni Thompson on the U.S. team.
Katie Teft, carried from the floor by stretcher after she landed on her neck while warming up for the vault, was released from Brackenridge Hospital after X-rays showed no significant injuries.
