JMU RALLIES TO WIN

Paul Harris returned a blocked punt for a touchdown Saturday to spark an 18-point fourth quarter as James Madison, ranked No.6 in NCAA Division I-AA, beat 16th-ranked William and Mary 24-17.

Strong safety Tony Jordan blocked Steve Fill's punt on the William and Mary 15 with 14:47 remaining. Harris, a defensive back, muffed the ball into the end zone where he fell on it to cut the Tribe lead to 17-14.

``The kid [Jordan] said, `Hey, they're not blocking me.' We didn't have on a special block'' play, said Alex Wood, JMU's coach. ``It obviously gave us a big boost.''

Eight minutes later, James Madison (2-0 overall, 1-0 Yankee Conference) took a 21-17 lead when Kelvin Jeter scored from 2 yards. John Coursey then added his third field goal of the game, a 40-yarder, to provide the final score.

The Tribe (0-2, 0-1) scored all of its points in the second quarter on touchdown runs of 1 yard by Matt Byrne and 3 yards by Tony Keen and a 32-yard field goal by Brian Shallcross.

Coursey had field goals of 37 and 34 yards, the last as time expired in the first half.

Rhadshaun Miles led the Dukes in rushing with 61 yards on 11 carries. Mike Cawley completed 13 of 27 passes for 168 yards and one interception, and rushed for 54 yards on 15 carries.

The James Madison defense held the Tribe to 75 yards passing. Byrne was 7-of-24 for 54 yards with two interceptions, and Mike Cook completed two of seven for 21 yards with two interceptions.
