Eye care for needy

BLACKSBURG - In Virginia nearly 14 percent of people over 65 live below the poverty level. Medical eye care is one of the many things people in this age group may neglect. As a result, many seniors suffer needlessly from loss of vision. One hundred eighty-one opthalmologists in Virginia volunteer for the National Eye Care Project, a public service of the Foundation of the American Academy of Opthalmology and the Virginia Society of Opthalmology. Anyone 65 or over may call NECP's toll-free number, (800) 222-EYES, for a referral to a local doctor.
