SHARPER OUT

Virginia linebacker Jamie Sharper, the Cavaliers' leading tackler last season, underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday and will not play Saturday against Georgia Tech.

Sharper suffered torn cartilage Saturday in UVa's 29-24 victory over North Carolina State, although he returned for two series of downs after the injury.

Sharper had 30 tackles in UVa's first three games. Wali Rainer, a ``true'' freshman, and redshirt freshman Anthony Poindexter are likely candidates to replace him.
