Salem Tools of Salem recently received the Above and Beyond award for the company's sponsorship of a Junior Achievement program at South Salem Elementary School. The company underwrote the program and provided employees who taught students about getting a job, and running a business.
Lube & Oil Express in Salem recently raised $2,454 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association with its "MDA Lube-a-thon." Owner Jim Sallie donated 100 percent of the proceeds of the 110 lube and oil changes made during the event to help local sufferers of muscular dystrophy and their families. The Lube-a-thon was cosponsored by CITGO Petroleum Corporation, Security Filters and APB Whiting Oil. Stop In Food Stores, Roanoke Restaurant Service, J93-FM, Rainbo Bread and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Roanoke provided refreshments.
