WMU SERIES A DISCUSSION ON CHANGES

The Women's Missionary Union of Virginia, an auxiliary of the state's Southern Baptist churches, is sponsoring a series of "summits" to discuss changes in the organization and new mission challenges.

The WMU has come under fire nationally by the leadership of the Southern Baptist Convention for perceived "disloyalty."

The women's group has said it will help promote Christian missionary outreach in all Southern Baptist churches, even ones that minimally support the national convention.

Specifically, it has said it will cooperate with member churches of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, which was begun by congregations dissatisfied with the conservative power group in the denomination.

One of the regional summits for this part of Virginia will be held Saturday at Beulah Baptist Church on Leesville Road in Lynchburg. Another in the series will be held Sept. 30 at Marion Baptist Church.
