The Women's Club of Vinton is sponsoring a bus trip to Potomac Mills Outlet Mall in Dale City on Oct.14 and 15.

Proceeds from the trip will be used to provide scholarships for students at Willi am Byrd High School and to send individuals to Camp Easter Seal.
Museum increases admission fees
The Virginia Museum of Transportation Inc. has announced an increase in its admission fees.
The museum offers individual and group rates (10 or more): $5 and $4.50 for adults; $4 and $3.50 for senior citizens; and $3 and $2 for children, ages 3 to 18.
The museum is in Roanoke's Historic Freight Station, 303 Norfolk Ave. S.W. and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon until 5 p.m.
Artists seek entries for annual show
The League of Roanoke Artists is accepting entries until Sept. 28 for its 10th annual Showcase of the Arts.
Roanoke-area professionals and amateurs, 18 and older, may submit works in any fine arts media.
The free Showcase of the Arts exhibition will be held Oct. 8-20 at The Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center during normal operating hours.

Crisis center seeks volunteers to train
TRUST, a nonprofit, 24-hour crisis counseling center and emergency shelter, is seeking volunteers for all shifts.
Applicants must have a desire to help others and be willing to adopt the TRUST counseling model and work a 4- to - 41/2-hour shift per week.
Training is provided by TRUST at no cost.

Guide on municipal services is available
The city of Roanoke is offering A Citizen's Guide to Municipal Services free to Roanoke residents .
The guide answers questions on getting brush and large items removed, registering to vote and provides general information and facts about the city, including a listing of the city's 68 parks and plazas.
Guides are available at numerous locations, including all libraries, fire stations, and other city-owned buildings, and at the Information Desk in the downtown municipal building. The guides also have been distributed to the presidents of neighborhood organizations.

United Way leadership program to start
The United Way Minority Leadership Enhancement Program, designed to increase the volunteer leadership representation of under-represented ethnic groups on the boards and committees of United Way and community agencies, will hold sessions in September and October.
The six leadership development sessions will be Sept. 19 through Oct. 24 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Central Fidelity Bank's downtown Roanoke headquarters. Although there is a $15 fee for supplies and materials, scholarships are available.

Companion program needs Volunteers
Senior citizens, who are 60 or older, on a limited income and willing to give four hours a day to help another senior, are needed as volunteers for the League of Older Americans' Senior Companion Program.
Volunteers will receive a nontaxed allowance of up to $200 per month, gas money and insurance while volunteering.
Senior Companions are needed in Botetourt, Craig, Roanoke counties, and the Alleghany Highland area.
