WomenWork meeting

BLACKSBURG - WomenWork, the all-women group that will build a house for a low-income family through Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity, will hold its monthly meeting on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center, at Church and Roanoke streets in Blacksburg. The construction committee will meet Sunday, at 6:30 p.m. Call Sandy Brown, 381-1856, for more information.

First Light Theatre

RADFORD - The Barter's First Light Theatre will bring a touring production of William Shakespeare's "Macbeth" to Radford University Monday. Curtain time is 7 p.m. in Preston Auditorium. Seven actors who perform multiple roles make up the cast. John Hardy is the director.

Highland bagpipes will be featured during the performance. Admission is $5 for the public and free with Radford University identification. For more information, call the information desk in Heth Hall, 831-5420.

Band Day at Tech

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech will host Band Day on Saturday during the Tech vs. Cincinnati football game. Performing in the show are the William Fleming Golden Colonel Marching Band, the 29th Infantry Division Band and the Virginia Army National Guard.

The Marching Virginians will perform a pregame show at 11:45 a.m. The halftime show performed by the Highty-Tighties will be followed by a performance that will include all 25 visiting bands.

Career fair at RU

RADFORD - Radford University will hold its 1995 Career Fair on Wednesday, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Muse Hall Banquet Room. Expected to attend are First Virginia Bank, Paramount's Kings Dominion, the FBI and the Children's World Learning Centers. An information and training session will be held Monday, from 4 to 5 p.m. For information, call Radford Career Services Center at 831-5373.

Santa fund-raiser

BLACKSBURG - Santa Claus is coming to town.

He will arrive Tuesday at the Blacksburg Main Post Office at 3:30 p.m. to kick off the 1995 fund-raising campaign for the Montgomery County Christmas Store. Santa will deliver the fund-raising letters to the post master and then visit with people in the main lobby until 4 p.m.

The Christmas Store has set a fund-raising goal of $110,000 for the 1995 store. All donations are tax deductible. Last year, the store served 1,374 families in Montgomery County. This year's goal is to serve 1,400 families.

Applications for the Christmas Store are available at the following locations:

All Montgomery County schools.

YMCA Thrift Shop.

Community Action.

Area food pantries, clothing banks and all county Social Service Department and RAFT.

To qualify for the Christmas Store, individuals must be permanent residents of Montgomery County, meet 125 percent of Federal Poverty Income levels, have children living at home, or be 62 years of age or older.

Solid waste disposal

CHRISTIANSBURG - Starting Oct. 1, the Mid-County Landfill, located on County Drive across from Corning, will no longer be open Sunday afternoons for solid waste disposal. The change will not affect the landfill's other operating hours, which are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
