A neighbor discovered the body on a downstairs couch during a routine check of the house. Identification in a wallet found indicated he was a man who had not been seen since he was released from a local hospital Aug. 17. That man was reported missing by a family member three weeks later.
A family member was unable to make a positive identification because the body was badly decomposed, police said. An autopsy report is pending.
In a separate incident, police found a 37-year-old man with head injuries lying in the 500 block of 11th Street Northwest Wednesday night. Milton H. Campbell was in stable condition Thursday in the neuro-trauma progressive care unit at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Police responded to a call about a man who had been the victim of an assault. When they arrived, they found Campbell, who was incoherent, at the scene. No weapon was found. No arrests had been made as of late Thursday.
